After fruitful talks, the Jamaat-e-Islami declared that it would postpone their protest sit-in. It claims that the government has agreed to its requests, which include examining contracts with independent power producers (IPPs).
The announcement was made late Thursday following the end of the fifth session of negotiations with the government’s negotiation team at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi.
JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman declared, “We are deferring and not ending the sit-in.” He added that he would formally declare the decision to postpone the protest demonstration at a rally today (Friday).

The head of JI issued a warning, saying that if the government did not comply with the party’s demands, they would hold another sit-in.
Hafiz Naeem declared that the JI will disclose their future plans at a gathering on the Islamabad highway today.
The contracts with the IPPs are in the news because consumers are footing large costs, which include capacity payments to electricity providers. Since Saturday, the JI has been holding a sit-in in Karachi to protest deals with the IPPs and inflation.
